What if the Earth gets mad?

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I’ve not written here in a while, actually for a year, which is bad I know, but truthfully? I have not written at all this year due to personal issues I do not wish to revisit.

Harmattan is upon us and you know when Harmattan comes, it comes with his families especially for we, the AAs. The past few weeks has left me weakened, and hindered my ability to type, edit, or engage in anything productive. (This sounded dramatic)

A reminder to everyone — wear your face masks this season; it’s crazy out here.

This doesn’t include the bolt driver who tried to send me to our maker last week. Literally! He would doze off while driving, mostly when we were approaching a trailer. I had to shout multiple times to keep him awake. Got home and reported him on the app, hoping that:

  1. They won’t assign him to me again.
  2. They might suspend him from driving until he resolves his evident sleep-related issues, so he doesn’t go and off someone’s child.

Over the week, I sat down to rewatch “The Black Book” and found it as intriguing as the first time. I usually don’t revisit movies or series, as I can already predict what is going to happen which diminishes the fun. However, this film compelled me to do so because, damn, it was exceptionally good.

It’s rare to find a Nollywood movie with such a gripping fighting scene, but what truly captivated me was the storyline. The movie served as a kind of tribute or explanation of the events in 2020 and why the End SARS protest became one of the biggest protests, or rather, a monumental movement in the country.

If you pay attention to the details in the movie, it reveals numerous End SARS references. The movie essentially revolves around the unjust killing of a young boy who was mistaken for the “suspected” culprit merely based on his appearance and why you should not mess with who you should not mess with! Does that make sense? It made sense in my head, sorry.

RMD has always been an exceptional and talented actor, honed over more than 15 years in the industry, which wasn’t surprising when he embodied the role with the skill of a seasoned actor. I’m pleased that the movie achieved widespread acclaim, as I want the world to witness the flaws in Nigeria’s justice system. In other words? How messed up the Nigerian justice system is.

Has anyone noticed how the world has become more depressing and seemingly blood-sucking since 2020? Although these issues existed before, they’ve intensified, with seemingly endless violence and tragedy occurring in almost every third-world country. Like I wonder if the earth is weary of us, and one day, out of anger, it might unleash its wrath like just sucking the world and then puff, everyone gone… I’m sorry.

What makes this even more painful is, there are just a select few who benefit from the chaos. The more people suffer, the more power and wealth they get.

This is the reason why it won’t make sense if some of you go to hell with these people (not me though, y’all stay safe) like I know sin is sin but is that the way it is supposed to be? Shouldn’t there be layers in hell depending on how grievous your sin was?

Idk, I’m just putting it out there to whoever is in charge of that realm.

Ending this long write-up here which for some reason, felt so dark and depressing.

And please:

  • Pray for Palestine!
  • Pray for Congo!
  • Pray for Sudan!
  • Pray for any country enduring hardships.
  • And also, pray for Nigeria.

Innocent lives are been lost because those grownups in power won’t sit down and have a meaningful conversation.

If you have the means, consider donating to places/countries in need; your contribution would go a long way.

Lastly, watch The Black Book if you haven’t. It’s a masterpiece.

This week, I’ve been indulging in nostalgic music, as there’s something just comforting about revisiting old songs once in a while. My pick for this week is Jon Bellion’s The Human Condition a 10/10 album, I’m telling you!

Thank you for reading.

Love,

Joy.
