“Aunty… aunty? You want roasted corn? Make I cut small for you?”

I had just finished recording and was leaving Tayo’s place, my ride was here, when I got in the first thing I saw was the roasted corn in his hands.

Now the roasted corn is not the issue. The issue was the way he was eating it… so rugged, like a pregnant woman that has been craving roasted corn ever since she got pregnant.

The first thing that came to my mind was “Is this the way I eat roasted corn around my friends.” Damn, that’s embarrassing.

“Aunty welcome, where we dey go?” The pidgin made me realize what kind of car I had just entered.

He kept initiating a conversation but I kept ignoring him pretending I was in a bad mood.

It was when he started speeding, that I knew I had to say something.

“Oga you dey speed o” I told him.

He laughed and said, “I don dey notice say you just dey look my driving, you sabi drive?”

“No o, I’m just trying to be careful,” I told him.

“Haaa… you suppose don sabi drive, you see me like this? Na since when I turn 18yrs old I start to dey drive. My uncle no gree teach me but as him dey teach my cousin na so I take learn am. See ehn…”

OMG… another real-life story coming up. I’m so not interested.

“See, I dey drive people go Lokoja, go Lagos. Driving no hard, na to just turn your steering like this and like that. See this life no be beans, you need to know how to do your thing blah blah blah…”

I watched as he told the story while hungrily devouring that roasted corn. I felt bad for the corn. It deserved better.

The roasted corn I was craving before I left Tayo’s place has suddenly disappeared.

“Aunty, you dey hear me? I no go driving school o. Na just with brain I take learn am.”

“Oh, that is nice” I replied to him while getting lost in my thoughts. I just want to go home.

“Aunty… aunty? You want roasted corn? Make I cut small for you?”

“No, thank you.”

Adding this last 500 naira to my savings today. I need to get this car soon.

Hello and welcome. Thank you for reading. This is the fourth part of my bolt chronicles.

How did it come about? I ride bolt at most everyday to go about my business in the city of Abuja and I’ve encountered different type of bolt drivers. I thought it will be fun if i write about them and how I felt why listening to their stories and hilarious tales.
