“5-star? You’ll collect 2-star. 2-star just because apart from your lectures, the ride was smooth.”

If anyone had told me I would be getting lectures about my “future married life” this morning, I would have said it was a lie. Everyone knew it was a topic I avoided so much, everyone except this bolt driver. He knew nothing about it, neither was he interested in knowing why.

It was supposed to be a short trip but it seemed like a 24hour road trip without the “fun” attached to it. I was already having a sad day because the jeans I was supposed to wear with my new top turned out to have washed (as in the color wash comot). I bought that jeans for 5k. That is a lot of money in this present Nigerian economy.

Mr Bolt driver had no idea how frustrated I was. I shouldn’t have replied him when he asked if I had graduated. I was offended when he said the next thing I have to do after school was to prepare for marriage.

“Who still thinks like this in this age and time?”

Anyways, I kept quiet. I have been looking for ways to sneakily wear my AirPods but that will look rude. I hate being rude.

Fast forward to 15minutes later, he is now talking about his love life and how he found his wife. “Ermm, excuse me, sir, I am so not interested in any of that,” was all I wanted to say.

Wait, why is the car slowing down? Is there traffic? At this time? I looked up and wondered what the universe had against me today.

“My sister, I’m telling you, marriage is very beautiful. Of course, it’s not a smooth ride but it is enjoyable. You girls nowadays don’t want to get married. You’ll enjoy your marriage, my dear. Just find one sweet boy and settle down with. Sister, are you listening to me?”

I really want to pretend I can’t hear him right now but like I said I don’t like being rude.

“Yes oga, I dey hear you.”

You can imagine my joy when saw I saw my destination in sight. I couldn’t even wait to come down, I had to drop on the main road. I can’t stand this anymore.

“Thank you for the company and for listening to me. Don’t forget to give me 5-star o” He shouted while I ran out

“5-star? You’ll collect 2-star. 2-star just because apart from your lectures, the ride was smooth.” I said in my head while smiling at him.

“God, I need to get a car.”

Hello and welcome. Thank you for reading. This is the second part of my bolt chronicles.

How did it come about? I ride bolt at most everyday to go about my business in the city of Abuja and I’ve encountered different type of bolt drivers. I thought it will be fun if i write about them and how I felt why listening to their stories and hilarious tales.
